About the Tournament

  • Capstone Junior Open

    Tournament Format

    The tournament will adhere to the following format:


    1. Stroke Play event  - All categories will be a stroke play format. Net scores will be calculated upon the scorecard hand in

    2. Shotgun format - Players will start at a designated hole and complete 18 holes

    3. Fourball - Players will be grouped in a fourball. Where possible, fourballs will be made of the same category of player

    4. Ready Golf - We encourage all players to communicate and play ‘ready golf’. This means that rather than waiting for the player furthest from the hole to play first every time, if a player is ready to play and has communicated to the group, they can play.

    5. Scoring - Players must score for their partner and caddies will verify the score after each hole

    6. Net Scores - Players are to record their partner’s gross score. Net scores will be calculated by the tournament officials.

    7. Golfer minimum age - The minimum age for any golfer is 10 years old.

    Details

    • For the boys or girls team competition the winning team will have the lowest Gross score of its best 4 golfer’s gross scores.

    • Example -  Girl golfers A, B, E and F shoot gross 70, 75, 80, 85 and girl golfers C and D shoot gross 90 and 95.   The girl’s gross team score is 70+75+80+85 = 310.

    Tournament rules

    Rules of Golf

    1.  All players must follow and adhere to the R&A rules of golf

    2. Players can ask caddies, coaches or course marshalls for ruling advice before making an action

    Rules specific to CAPSTONE Junior Open

    1. Out of Bounds - A player who hits the ball out of bounds may make the choice to take a 1 stroke penalty and re-hit the shot (tee shot goes out of bounds, re-hit your third shot off the tee) or drop the ball at the point of entry into the hazard and take a 2 stroke penalty (tee shot goes out of bounds, drop a ball at the point of entry and hit your fourth shot from that point.

    2. Double par pick up - Once a player has taken enough shots on the hole to score double par (e.g. 6 shots on a par 3), they must pick up their ball and finish the hole. Their score for the hole will be double par.

    3. Pick and place - If the ball is on the fairway, players are permitted to pick and place the ball ensuring a fair lie. The ball must be placed within 6 inches (no closer to the hole) of where it originally had come to rest.

  • Players

    • Show respect for teammates, opponents, officials, and coaches

    • Respect the integrity and judgment of officials

    • Exhibit fair play, sportsmanship, and proper conduct at all times.

    • Maintain a high level of safety awareness

    • Refrain from the use of profanity, vulgarity, or other offensive behaviours

    • Adhere to the established rules and standards of the game to be played

    Coaches

    • Prepare participants with regard to the behaviour expected of them this event

    • Cooperate with fellow coaches, tournament directors, and officials in the performance of their duties

    • Exemplify ethical behaviours, including honesty, integrity, fair play, and sportsmanship

    • Be generous in winning and graceful in losing 

    • Refrain from humiliating other teams either verbally or through results. Winning is desirable, but to win at any cost defeats the purpose of the game

    • Accept responsibility for the conduct of his/her athletes and promote appropriate behaviour at all times

    Parents / Spectators

    • I won’t pressure my child in any way; I know that this is their sport, not mine

    • I will use appropriate language and never harass another player, coach, official, or other spectator

    • I will never argue with an official or administrator. If I disagree with a decision, I will inform the coach or manager after the competition

    • I will encourage my child to compete within the rules and respect officials’ and coaches’ decisions

    • I will teach my child to respect the efforts of their opponents

    • I will applaud good plays/performances by both my child’s team and their opponents and be a positive role model

    • I will give positive comments that motivate and encourage continued effort

    • I will focus on my child’s and team’s efforts and performance

    • I will thank the coaches, officials, and other volunteers for giving their time
